MTA Ridership Changes during COVID-19

Client: TWO-N

Completed: 2020

During the first wave of COVID-19 we were interested in how MTA subway ridership had changed during the pandemic. In doing so we discovered great disparities between difference New York City neighborhoods. By looking at different communities’ changes in ridership during the first half of 2020, we are able to explore questions of privilege during an urban pandemic — Who gets to stay home? Who has to continue working? Who is put most at risk?
