Tracking American Poverty & Policy

Client: demos.org

Completed: 2012

We created a U.S. Poverty Dashboard that aggregates gigabytes of U.S. census data over 40 years. The interface converges complex data sets on wages, unemployment, and food-stamps. Using the census flat files, we built a straightforward data-service with a highly responsive HTML5 front-end, allowing users to browse the data set and filter by any demographic breakdown.

The user can query annual poverty rates for any cross section of the U.S. population. For example - white, female, single, no high school diploma. The data is geo-coded enabling a choropleth view of state and county based poverty rates.
